9/24-9/30 Post 1: Consultant/Observer for a Small Group

Using a consultant or an observer for a small group can better the outcome of the small groups interactions and goal. Observation is a type of systematic feedback that provides external evaluation and advice. Observers provide a third or an outside perspective for the small group that the members may not have thought about. The outside observer is important because he or she's perspective is objective and unbiased. Depending on what the observer is asked to look at/for in the small group, the observer usually assists in the development and growth of a group. In reality, an outside observer is not always available so groups sometimes use group members as observers. This can be helpful in that it gives the members a chance to take themselves out of the equation. Though they can't be completely objective and unbiased toward observing, it provides the opportunity to further the observer as a group member and the group as a whole.

  1. Hey there Jinx21
I believe that using a consultant and an observer will produce a better outcome and result by the group. They serve as a third person party and give an outside perspective. I agree how you talked about that the observer can assist in the development and growth of the group. I like how you point out that members can serve as an observer. I agree that they can but it will be hard because they can be bias or they might not be able to give advice that a true outsider can see. But I do believe that it can still work out because they might be able to see something or give feedback from this new perspective in the role that they are given to the group.

  2. Hi Jinxx21, I thought you did a nice job with your response this week. You discussed how using a third party can provide perspective for a small group that the members hadn’t thought of. I agree because sometimes bringing in a fresh pair of eyes can be insightful. They might notice or point out things that they group members didn’t because they are part of the group and have already formed biased opinions. Their role is to help the group with positive feedback and this is something you stated as well. This allows the group to grow and learn about their team dynamic in a beneficial way
